I have been going on and on about the Palestinian/Israeli conflict because nothing will ever get done in this region especially regards fighting extremism and spreading democracy until it is resolved. King Abdullah of Jordon has articulated this in a much better and concise way on Jon Stewart’s Daily Show. Everyone should watch this and if you’ve seen it watch it again and read the comments on the website. For readers outside the region, let me tell you this is the truth. Please help stop the Israeli settlements so the peace process can move forward.
P.S. If there ever was a person who should be the “ruler of the free world” it should be Jon Stewart. If I were in the US, I would not have missed his Rally to Restore Sanity for anything.

I have seen it a few times, and I agree it is brilliant. King Abdullah spoke extremely well, and Jon Stewart gave him and excellent platform to do so, with the right prompts and the right holding back.
At the end of the show Jon Stewart commented on how great was the amount of sanity King Abdullah possesses and I agree.
I actually prefer Stephen Colbert to Jon Stewart, but they make a brilliant pair. Their joint rally must have been superb.

And I would certainly choose to implement justice peacefully, but when you have a nation that does not believe you have any right in your land, that tries to erase your history and identity by killing you and destroying your homes, and refuses any kinds of peaceful talks and just settlements, then what do you do? remain silent for the sake of ‘peace’? That would be submitting to your enemy, being their slave.

But what can we do? Sadly, I am with Stewart when he said “I’m a little nauseous” when contemplating what is happening. In America it really seems we are on a crazy train that we can’t control. It did us no good to protest when either Gaza or Lebanon was under attack. Our government ignored us. They don’t seem to care about the numbers of Americans becoming homeless. They are quite happy to turn us against each other so they can continue to profit while we squabble. And who is profiting? the factions that have united to support Israel are politically powerful and well funded: It’s not just zionists, it’s the christian right and the military industrial complex. In America I cannot imagine a coalition harder to defeat than God and guns. The funny thing about US extremism is how mainstream it is. Many Americans believe defending Israel is the way to bring about the second coming of Christ! They dress up in church as Israelites! They cart around fake Arks of the Covenant! Some believe the Jews are going to loose out in a cosmic battle and they are going to inherit the land! These are the same people behind the anti-islamic movement in America. Remember something Aidah said: people in America are learning about Islam in their churches. S/he is correct. They are fed a steady diet of how horrible and undeserving Arabic and Muslim peoples are so it becomes easy to accept the unjust as just. Thus, many settlements are being supported, with both money and weapons, by American Christians who believe they will get a divine reward for doing so. The difference is that in Arabic countries the politicos seem to try to curb this kind of thinking, but in America it is encouraged.

If you are on netflix let me share with you a great documentary called “Hiding and Seeking” it is about a moderate Jewish man who flies to Isreal to talk some sanity into his sons who have become ultraorthodox. Its a great piece… more disturbingly I saw another doc. called “Armageddon” which is what the Christians believe about the Rapture… terrifying people.

The bible says the end of the world will come 70 years after Isreal is re-founded. Isreal was re-founded in 1947/48, that means 2017/18 the world will end. Also they believe the antichrist will come soon. But they disagree on wether it is Obama.
I long ago came to the conclusion that Israel is merely buying time while actively pursing all of the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Gaza as territories, and the Palestinians out. I don’t like that conclusion but that is how is seems. The USA is complicitous. That doesn’t mean the rest of the world has to be.

Israel has the power and has consistently used it to slowly commit genocide. The concept of Israel is problematic; Israel can’t allow all those palestinians full citizenship or Israel will not be a jewish state.
Chomsky also notes well in other talks the fact that the US government, and other governments, are ignoring the will of the people. One has to wonder to what extent democracy is really just another form of social control.
